AMETHYST
It is Hotlanta, the Indian summer of 1993, and seventeen-year old Clara Sampson has just entered her freshman year at the historically Black institution of Barrett College. Always having been under the watchful eyes of her older parents, she is now eager to shed her “shy-girl” persona and meet all that the Black Mecca has to offer. Clara is inexperienced at everything, but especially love. That all changes when she meets fellow freshman Jacob Warner. He is different from any boy she’s ever met, and he unexpectedly shapes and reshapes her heart in ways she could never imagine. Amethyst pays homage to the unique experience of young Black love in the early 90’s; the music, fashion and culture that shaped that time. With quirky, smart dialogue and unabashedly authentic themes, Amethyst recreates what Black teens in love typically look like on print.
